💕 Breast imaging have several different pathways, which includes:
1) Mammography
2) Breast Sonography
3) Breast MRI
4) Breast Patient Navigator
5) Contrast enhanced mammography
6) Dedicated Breast CT
🩷 Breast MRI is one of my favorite scans to perform when I work in MRI.
💡 What are breast MRIs used for?
•Breast cancer detection
•Check the extent of a breast cancer
•To check for silicone breast implant leaks or ruptures
•If you are at high risk for breast cancer
•If you have dense breast tissue
•For patients with a personal history of breast cancer
•Breast biopsies for a tumor that was seen or seen best on the MRI images
✅ FYI: The titanium clip that was placed in your breast through Mammography or Breast Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy is safe for the MRI scan.
❌ Tissue breast expanders are not safe since they have metal in them, and you would have to wait until those are removed in order to have the MRI scan.
One of the reasons why I went back to specialize in Mammography was because I was unsure if the titanium clip was safe or not or didn’t know why it was inserted. My uncertainty made me grow more as a technologist and open up opportunities for me to specialize into other breast imaging areas.
📝Being uncertain about something isn’t always bad. It can open your mind up to think more, research, or even take on more job opportunities or challenges.
